Histories of medical geography.

چکیده
Like would-be claimants arguing over a family inheritance, different disciplines have created different genealogies of medical geography, even as they share an interest in capturing its riches. Over the course of the twentieth century, historians of medicine and geographers have each created their own histories of the relations between health and environment.' Yet for both historians and geographers, medical geography has offered the tantalizing possibility for linking historical insight with the concerns of current practice. Again and again, this imperative has structured historical narratives, even as the details differ according to allegiance. The founders of the modern discipline of the history of medicine in Europe and the United States imbued the young field with a profound sense of the importance of geographic understanding. متن کاملTime geography and space–time prism
Time geography is a constraints-oriented approach to understanding human activities in space and time. Time geography recognizes that humans have fundamental spatial and temporal limitations: people can physically only be in one place at a time and activities occur at a sparse set of places for limited durations. Participating in an activity requires allocating scarce available time to access a...
متن کاملAsymmetric male and female genetic histories among Native Americans from Eastern North America.
Previous studies have investigated the human population history of eastern North America by examining mitochondrial DNA (mtDNA) variation among Native Americans, but these studies could only reconstruct maternal population history. To evaluate similarities and differences in the maternal and paternal population histories of this region, we obtained DNA samples from 605 individuals, representing...
